When you own your own shop, you’ll know the importance of maximising all your sales.  It’s not enough for your customers to only buy what they came into your shop for.  In order to maximise your profits, you need to make sure that some of your customers are making impulse purchases.  One of the ways you can do this is with an effective point of sale display.

A point of sale display is used to showcase a specific product or range of products next to where the customers pay for their purchases.  Designed to complement other elements of your retail display, they can be extremely beneficial.  By showcasing a specific product or brand in that way, you instil customer confidence in it.  An effective point of sale display can educate customers about new product ranges and specific promotional offers.  And, most importantly, they can encourage customers to make impulse purchases when they are paying for their goods.

A shop’s window display should be the starting point of any retail design.  It can be highly influential, relaying your store’s entire philosophy and determining whether a customer will enter or walk past.  It is thought that a customer will decide whether or not they will enter a store in only a few seconds, so the retail display in your window needs to make a huge impact in an extremely short space of time.  Create a striking window display and your volume of customers, and therefore sales, could increase immeasurably.

While your window display should be attractive and unique, it’s important not to lose sight of the main aim – to encourage customers to make a purchase.  Having a retail design that it too experimental could actually alienate customers and even leave them perplexed as to what your shop actually sells.  If you’re in any doubt about the retail display in your window, remember to keep it simple.  Showcase what you consider to be your best, most attractive products and display them in an eye-catching way.

Your window display should relay the philosophy of your store.  Do you want to be known for selling good value products, or do you consider yours to be a more exclusive establishment?  Your retail display should adequately relay that message to the customer within a few seconds.  Having an attractive and effective window display will encourage customers to visit your store and, ultimately, spend a long time browsing and making purchases.

Your Retail Design Can Influence Customers:

When you open your own shop, there are a lot of things to think about.  One of the most important of which is the retail design, which extends far beyond simply arranging your products in an attractive way.  The layout and design of your shop can have significant influence on what your customers buy, encouraging them to purchase more than they originally intended.

The front of your shop should be extremely impactful.  The retail display at the front of your store is the first thing that your customers see and will determine whether or not they venture further.  Never display your basic items at the front of your shop.  You should use this space to showcase your most distinctive and eye-catching pieces, and create a retail display that sets you apart from the competition.

When considering your retail design, think about your most popular products.  While you shouldn’t hide them away, you should display them on the centre of aisles towards the back of your store.  This will discourage customers from rushing directly to the item they want in your store.  You want them to be able to see as many of your other products as possible before they leave the store.

In order for customers to spend a long time in your shop, your retail design should create a relaxing environment.  Any bright lighting, loud music or difficult to negotiate aisles will make customers want to leave as quickly as possible.  Create a calming shopping environment and your sales will speak for themselves.
