Barber Design create store design for LA Muscle in Richmond
Having previously traded predominantly online, LA Muscle wanted to bring their products to a wider audience. They approached Barber Design to help them create a new, high-end boutique environment in London, in order to showcase their nutritional supplements and strengthen their brand.
Established in 1997, LA Muscle is a British sports nutrition company, offering a range of premium supplements for fitness, weight loss and nutrition, including protein supplements and muscle building products. The LA Muscle range is proud to be 100% free of artificial additives, with no artificial colours or sweeteners and is also 100% GM free. The idea behind the new store is to increase consumer awareness and increase both on-line and off-line revenues for the brand.
LA Muscle wanted the new design to stand out from the crowd – offering a break from the traditional cluttered design often favoured by other established high street supplement retailers. They wanted it to feel more exclusive and luxurious, with a clean and simple design – offering a high-end, unique customer experience which reflects the ethos of the brand.
Since opening in April, the feedback received about the design has been extremely positive. Visitors to the store love the clean cut, minimalist retail design, which uses a classic dark grey and white colour palette. Recessed product display cabinets set into the walls are highlighted with fluorescent lighting and white, shaped counters and product plinths create a classy feel, evocative of an exclusive fashion or luxury cosmetic store. The product displays are interspersed with lifestyle pictures and aspirational images, encouraging visitors to find out more about the inspiring and exclusive range of products.

The new LA Muscle Boutique store is situated in an area of London renowned for it’s sporting fraternity. Richmond is home to a higher than average number of runners, rugby players, cyclists and general gym bunnies, making it an ideal retail location for the health and fitness brand. Visitors to the new store can find out more about the how to use the various dietary supplements that the LA Muscle brand have to offer, with friendly LA Muscle premium team members on hand to answer questions and offer advice on the best combination for their training regime, with personal one-to -ne advice on what will suit them best and how they can set and reach their personal fitness goals, both safely and quickly.
This new retail design – along with our retail design for the Simply Be and Jacamo flagship store design, which we created earlier in the year – has been entered into this years Retail Week Interiors Awards. Last year we were finalists at these prestigious awards and we will be sure to keep you posted on our progress when the winners are announced later this year.
