Barber shortlisted for retail interior design award
We are very happy to announce this week that Barber Design are in the running for a very prestigious award within the retail interior design industry. We have been shortlisted in the Food and Supermarket Design category of the Retail Week Interior Awards for our recent retail design work for the ‘Sweet as a Button‘ sweet shop in Kings Langley.
Sweet as a Button is the brainchild of sisters Miranda and Hayley Button. A small, traditional sweet store it offers an amazing array of sweet confections, including an extensive pick and mix selection plus ice creams and milkshakes made from customers favourite chocolate bars or sweets. What makes our nomination in this category all the more remarkable is that this small independent store design has been pitted against retail giants including Waitrose and the Co-Operative! So as you can imagine we are thrilled to be nominated and cannot wait to find out who has won at the awards ceremony which will be taking place on November 6th at the swanky Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London.
The Sweet as a Button store design evokes a feeling of nostalgia with enticing curved display racks, period wooden floors and painted furniture alongside retro hexagonal designs and green candy-striped walls. Sweets are available for purchase by weight or in packets with rows of sweets in glass jars lining the walls. The store stocks an impressive assortment of old-school favourites such as sugar mice and flying saucers, plus the sister’s own handcrafted confectionery – made with British sugar beet in open copper pans. The store was inspired by the Button sisters magical memories of their childhood visits to the village sweet shop – which eventually closed. Hayley decided that it was something that was missing from the area and she wanted her own child to experience the same sugar-filled magic that she and her sister had felt. So the two sisters set out to create their own retro-styled store with a modern twist.
Now its just a 4 month wait to find out if we have won this prestigious retail design award – so keep watching the blog for the results and we’ll make sure you’re the first to know if we scoop the prize!
