More seasonal retail window displays this week and now Halloween is over many shops are hastily rearranging their displays as we move toward the busiest retail period of the year – Christmas!

The Harrods store in Knightsbridge plays host to one of the world’s most iconic Christmas retail window displays and has to meet high expectations from both regular shoppers and tourists visiting London from all over the world seeking Christmas shopping inspiration.

The theme for the window display this year is Disney Princesses. Top fashion designers including Roberto Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta and Versace have teamed up with the store to produce a range of stunning dresses based on ten of Disney’s most famous females which will feature in a series of magical scenes in every window of the store.

The dresses are inspired not just by the original Disney artwork, but also the personalities of the different characters. For example, designer Marchesa describe how their gown, inspired by Ariel from the Little Mermaid, captures her adventurous under-the-sea spirit whilst also being an embodiment of modern feminine style in deep blue silk.

Other dresses in the display which was revealed on November 1st include Princess Jasmine from Aladdin by Escada, Belle from Beauty and the Beast by Valentino and Sleeping Beauty by Ellie Saab. Some remain true to the original Disney concept whilst others are stunningly modern like Roberto Cavalli’s take on Pocahontas, which is adorned with feathers and slashed to the thigh.

In addition to the new magical fairy tale window displays, Harrods is flanked by two 30ft high decorated Christmas trees and the entire store is bedecked with 11,000 twinkling Christmas lights which were switched on during a festive ceremony on Thursday night which included the arrival of a beautiful Disney princess in horse drawn carriage and a fireworks display launched from the roof of the building.
