Sweet as a Button – new sweet shop design by Barber opens in Hertfordshire

Sweet shop table

One of our smaller (but very fun to work on) projects, Sweet as a Button is a wonderful sweet shop that opened at the beginning of July in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire.

Owned by sisters Miranda and Hayley Button, the shop offers an amazing array of sweet confections, including the best pick and mix selection we’ve seen since Woolworths closed – plus ice creams and milkshakes made from your favourite chocolate bar or sweets.

Rows of pick and mix sweets

The design of this store evokes a nostalgic feel with curved display racks, varnished wooden floors and painted furniture alongside retro hexagonal designs and green candy-striped walls. Rows of sweets in glass jars include many old-school favourites plus the sister’s own handcrafted confectionery, made with British sugar beet in open copper pans. The inspiration for the store came from the sister’s visits to the village sweet shop as children – after that store closed, Hayley – who has a child of her own – decided that it was something that was missing from the thriving High Street and the two sisters set out to create their own retro store with a modern twist.

This isn’t our first sweet shop design – check out our work for SugarSin london to see some more of our sweet shop design work!
