Retro-look pop-up retail design for Anya Hindmarch on Mount Street
Last week we reported on the smallest pop up store in the world – now we’re having a look at what could be the most retro-inspired pop-up retail design this summer – as luxury leather bag designer Anya Hindmarch reveals a fab pop-up store on London’s Mount Street. The store showcases her new Autumn-Winter 2014 runway collection in a playful ‘Mini Mart’ design which also sells 99 ice creams for the bargain price of 99p all summer long.
By offering big bold colours and bargain ice creams – Anya’s aim is to bring some irreverence and fun to London’s poshest new retail street whilst also being respectful of their neighbours. The collection is inspired by her passion for taking ordinary items and making them extraordinary, luxurious and practical too – in a winning combination of high-end craftsmanship and tongue-in-cheek humour. The collection has a strong retro feel with pieces taking their inspiration from the pop art styles of Daz and Ariel washing powder boxes or packets of Frosties Cereal.
In addition to the luxury packaging-style bags Anya has been modelling some of her famous clutches on the contents of the packets – with a range of bags that look good enough to eat – check out this glossy, shimmering giant bourbon biscuit clutch bag for example!
Inside the store, the retail design mirrors the goods – with retro signage, chequered flooring, neon signs and a large mural of a vintage version of Kellog’s Tony the Tiger on the wall along with a series of signs with slogans such as ‘Anya says handbags are fashion candy’ emblazoned across them in an old fashioned, market stall signwriting font.
Anya’s no stranger to trying new designs as you may remember from our blog post earlier this year – she’s hoping to expand her chain of stores to 56 across the UK with a chance for customers to get involved in the design of their goods. Let’s hope she opens one near to us and that she’ll be offering those 99p ice creams in all of them too!
